Nodak Flickertails

State Club

  By Helen Evans

From the moment President Helen Schatz and her husband Darryl Schatz arrived Friday for the president’s dinner they reported that dinner and the program went well.  They received the news that the club, once again, received the Club of Excellence award.  Twenty-seven members found their way to the Grand National Rally this year.  The Nodak Flickertails set a record this year for attending the rally. Of the 27 members, eight proudly wore the green ribbon that said First Time”.  That is very different from five years ago when we had only two or six members attending.  With the theme of Tailgate 07, the site was well decorated.  Because Joyce Hesse is very resourceful, in her absence she was voted to be the chairperson for coming up with ideas to decorate our sight. Chris Hesse, Anne Collins and Judy Leier were also part of the decorating committee but other members also shared in the fun of decorating.  In addition, we also displayed lots of information about places to visit in North Dakota, gave away North Dakota grown products such as Navy beans with the recipe, sunflower seeds, and American Crystal Sugar packets, sugar produced from sugar beets.  The information was especially helpful because it generated a lot of conversation for passerby and for WIT members attending the Norsk Hostfest in October.

At the rally, we were fortunate to have Vernon (Vern) and Doris Jewett of Valley City join the club.

Several club members had volunteer duties during the week.  Many other members took advantage of Women’s Driving Class, seminars, WIT Rodeo and special building tours.  Jaun Rosales celebrated his 50th birthday at the rally.  Since he was the “Big 5-0”, the group decided that he should receive 50 birthday cards, either bought or handmade.  So one afternoon the women of Nodak Flickertails congregated in Judy’s RV and with Coleen’s scrap booking kit, our ingenuity and clever sayings produced 50 birthday cards.  To add to the fun, the city police came to present Jaun with a special gift package.  When the law enforcement arrived and asked for Jaun, he got a bit concern as to why the law enforcement was asking for him.  It was all in fun!  Several members who arrived early attended the parade in Forest City and other pre-rally activities.  Thanks to all the staff at WIT, for their dedication and hard work before and during the rally to ensure our enjoyment.

The next campout will be at Fort Ransom State Park September 7-9.
